Our made-in-France solution for guiding users at night

In a segment devoted to French innovation, TF1’s Journal de 20h (French news media) highlighted our patented LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint technology, developed in Pessac and designed to guide pedestrians and cyclists at night without the need for street lighting.

Simple to apply like a conventional road paint, LuminoKrom® captures natural or artificial light during the day and restores it for over 10 hours after dark. In this way, it creates a real light guide on the ground, without any electricity consumption or CO₂ emissions.

The commune of Arès, on the Bay of Arcachon, is one of the precursor territories. Seduced by the initial trials, it has equipped more than 300 kilometers of bike paths with this ecological night marking system. The effectiveness of the solution, combined with its low cost (around €8,000 per km compared with €200,000 for public lighting), makes it a real alternative to artificial light.

An innovation that has been spreading around the world since 2018

LuminoKrom® technology is inspired by a natural phenomenon observed in certain marine species. Like algae or deep-sea fish, the photoluminescent pigments in the paint store light during the day and release it at night, creating a controlled bioluminescence effect.

Patented and produced near Bordeaux, our “made in France” paint is now booming internationally. The 20 tons of paint produced each year by the company are shipped to a variety of destinations: England, Canada, the Middle East, Australia, South Africa and Spain, where they are used to make bicycle paths safer, mark desert areas or create artistic frescoes visible at night.

Thanks to our innovation, the cities of the future could well resemble the luminous depths of the oceans after dark.
