[FRANCE 3] LuminoKrom® photoluminescent marking is deployed for the first time in France

A road in the Landes region equipped with LuminoKrom® to better guide motorists at night
The Landes département has been selected for a first-of-its-kind experiment in France: the application of LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint to a section of the départementale 29, one of the most accident-prone roads in France. Markings were applied to 450 meters of roadside to improve night-time visibility without the need for electricity. Developed by Bordeaux-based SME OliKrom in partnership with Eiffage, the paint captures daylight and releases it up to 80 meters away, for up to 10 hours. This full-scale test aims to assess the impact of this innovative signage on driver perception.
A three-year test to validate efficiency, user behavior and economies of scale
This experiment is accompanied by a rigorous protocol: data on motorists’ speed have been recorded prior to installation, and will be compared with those collected during the three-year trial. Cameras will also be used to observe changes in trajectory or speed reduction. If the results are positive, LuminoKrom® paint could be extended to other French roads. Although three times more expensive than conventional paint, this solution offers advantages in terms of safety, visibility and the absence of electrical operating costs. Its price should also come down with larger-scale production.
